Butterfly

Background:

In April of 2017, I shared a series of paintings titled "Chrysalis." 

​Today I am sharing 6 new installments as part of a second phase of this collection titled "Butterfly."
​

​Updated Artist Statement:

'Butterfly' continues to illuminate the beauty in transformation. While ‘Chrysalis’ illustrated the vitality involved in periods of change, 'Butterfly' depicts the vibrancy and liveliness of embracing that change. Just as caterpillars go through a metamorphosis to become butterflies, humans can take steps to become the greatest versions of themselves. Society rewards transformations which yield success; yet the process involved to get to that point is often unknown.

Rendered using gouache, layers of transparent and opaque paint reveal representational stages of growth. The prominence of black leading lines allude to the innumerable paths and options everyone can take on their own journey. 

‘Chrysalis’ and 'Butterfly' are both about gaining a sense empowerment through embracing adventure.
Everyone’s life is different and there are infinite possibilities to be explored.
Have trust in the process and take steps to grow...
