Creating Vision Boards for Meditation

Step 1: When to create your vision board.

The best time to create your board is within the first 4 days of a new moon. We are all connected and affected by the moon and tides, so having your goals in tune with the universe has been proven to help you to achieve them.

Step 2: How to create your vision board.

When it comes to creating vision boards you have a lot of options. You can go the physical route of collaging found images and personal photographs onto a piece of paper or other 2D surface, or you can take a digital approach and scour the internet for inspiring photos and make a board in a powerpoint or using other photo editing software such as Lightroom.

Whether you are flipping through magazines, old books, photo albums, or browsing Tumblr or Pinterest; save all the images that speak to you. You don’t necessarily have to incorporate every image you find onto your final board but it’s good to collect material to choose from.

If you want to work out more, you might consider using photos of nature (to inspire you to get outside and go on hikes), or maybe use the logo of the gym you have a membership to (to remind you to go there more frequently).

If you are hoping to get a new job, think about what your ideal workplace looks like. What would the other employees be doing? What would your desk look like? Where would this job be? Even if some of your desires seem unrealistic, they could still be achievable. Maybe you see yourself working near the ocean, doing brand management, with your best friend. Collect images of the sea, companies you would love working with, and of course a few pics of you and your friend!!

Step 3: Placement of your vision board.

It is important to display your board somewhere central to your daily routine. I usually place vision boards above my desk in my bedroom because whether I’m falling asleep or working on my blog, my dreams and goals are always in sight.

Find a place in your home to display your vision board. If that means framing it to hang in your living room, or pinning it to your door GO FOR IT!!

Step 4: Thinking of the keywords and themes.

If you’re visual like me, creating the board first and viewing the images can allow you to see and understand the overall types of experiences you want in your life.

Sometimes you don’t realize what you want until you see it. You might be flipping through magazines and you keep seeing photos of houses you just wish were yours, yet you’d never considered moving. Once you see you’ve cut out 15 photos of houses, maybe you’ll realize you have a newfound goal of moving into a new place.

Take a look at the images you’ve collected and try to consider any overarching themes you’ve created. I usually find that I am drawn to nature shots and fashion photography which reminds me I enjoy being outdoors and going on photo adventures.

Step 5: Meditating to your vision board.

Spend 5 - 10 minutes each day with the sole purpose to mentally manifest the goals you created on your vision board.

Option 1: Mantras

By acknowledging what the overarching themes of your board where you can easily create mantras to repeat for 5 - 10 minutes. Use a present voice and create sentences such as “I am at my new beachside office working with amazing brands and I am so happy.” or “I am traveling the world with a nature conservation group to help spread awareness of endangered species.” Whatever it is you wish to achieve, saying it will help you to take it more seriously and help you to begin actively pursuing opportunities to fulfill those desires.

Option 2: Clearing Your Mind

It is easy to think of a million things at once, but to clear your mind and let your thoughts drift away is surprisingly challenging. With your vision board in front of you, focus on a particular image or the board as a whole and let that focus consume you. This time will allow you to absorb your goals and helps you to set clear intentions for your day.

Option 3: Journaling

Writing has a way of drowning out everything else going on. Spending a few minutes each day looking at your board and writing down stories about yourself achieving the goals you created can help them to come true.
