What is your relationship with beauty?
Thats a hard question for me. Why, you ask? Because I am not sure I truly understood the depth of what beauty is until recently. As I assume is the same for most, when I was younger, outward beauty seemed so important. I felt that I was always beautiful on the inside, but I definitely kind of hid that and led with outward beauty instead. Presently, this has reversed for me. Maybe it has to do with getting older and/or becoming a parent, but so much of what is important to me has changed in the past few years. Now I see beauty from the inside out; in myself and in other people. I’ve also come to the realization that beauty is not about what other people feel about me or about what I see when I look in the mirror—it is solely about what I feel about myself. And, you know what? These days I feel really good about myself and really proud of the person, wife and mother I am. I think the most beautiful people in this world are those with a steady and strong moral compass and that is why I try to continually stay true to myself and my values - beautiful is the person that can do that.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
In all honesty, the first thing I do is check my phone. Then I try to get myself dressed and ready before the children wake up and the chaos ensues.
Coffee or tea?
I enjoy both, but coffee from Starbucks is my go-to. Venti-Iced Soy Latte w/ Blonde Espresso with Sugar-Free Vanilla and Raspberry. Yum.
What’s the best book you have ever read?
When I was in my early twenties, my favorite book was Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People”. In my late-twenties, I enjoyed reading non-fiction books and enjoyed authors like James Patterson and Judy Garwood. Since having children, I only read self-help books on parenting and there are so many I enjoy. I actually wrote an article on the “Top Ten Parenting Books According to a Mother of Three.”
What is your favorite book to read with your kids?
The "Mercy Watson” Series by Kate DiCamillo.
If you could give advice to yourself as a ten-year-old, what would you say?
I would tell my ten-year old self to chill out. I was slightly serious, sensitive and emotional as a child. Heck, I still am. So, I would also tell my thirty-one year old self to chill out.
What was the most challenging aspect of launching your blog? What was the most rewarding part?
My blog launched in late-March of 2017, so it is still super new. I am continuing to improve the look and user-friendliness of website, so that is a constant challenge. Additionally, I am still working on devoting enough time to each social media platform. In one week I was able to get 1k followers on Instagram which blew my mind and really excited me. The comments, emails, messages and likes/follows that I receive are the most rewarding, as they remind me that I am inspiring, empowering and entertaining others.
Which of your blog posts are you the most proud of?
I am really proud of my post “Riding the Wave: From Intensity to the Brink of Insanity to Serenity.” It is a post about the ups and downs and challenges and triumphs involved in raising a high-spirited child.
Where did you grow up?
I am from Staten Island, was born in Brooklyn, New York, but grew up in Tampa, Florida. I have also lived in Miami, Boston and Virginia.
How old are you?
I am thirty-one years old and proud to be. For me, turning thirty really ignited something inside of me which has led me on a path of self-discovery. As of late, I feel as though I have newfound strength, self-confidence and passion. I am thirsty for so much in life these days and if you want, you can read all about it in my article, "Thirsty Thirties.”
What are you passionate about?
Above all else, my children and my husband. There is nothing that I care about more than living a life with them that we can all be proud of. This involves living a life where we, individually or together, are making the world a better place, in some way. For me, I am passionate about inspiring and empowering women, parents and families to be stronger, better and happier. I am also super passionate about entertaining others, as I truly believe that we all need to laugh more. More laughing will bring on more loving and more love is definitely needed in this world.
What advice do you have for young people looking to make a career out of blogging?
Go for it! If you want to blog, then blog. Do it for you, not for the money. If you can monetize your site, eventually, then that is wonderful and amazing. But, for it to work, I feel that you have to be doing it for you. Also, don’t overthink the content. The bests articles/posts come from the heart and are less “formulated”. Research, join support groups and be patient. You can be successful if you are happy blogging and you work hard.
